AMMAN, July 27 (KUNA) -- Government Syrian troops deployed on the border
with Jordan opened fire early on Friday at Syrian civilians fleeing violence
at home killing a child, spokesman of the Jordanian Government said.
Samih Al-Maaytah, also the minister of state for information affairs, said
in a statement the child was shot when a group of civilians crossing the
border seeking refuge in Jordan were fired upon by the Syrian government
forced stationed on the other side of the border.
Some 150,000 Syrians have fled to Jordan as a result of the ongoing
violence that broke out 16 months ago. (end)
