EU adds Syrian airlines to blacklist

BRUSSELS, July 24 (KUNA) -- The European Union Tuesday published an updated sanctions list adding three entities supporting the regime and 26 persons responsible for violent repression of the Syrian people.
The three entities are Syrian Arab Airlines, Cotton Marketing Organisation, and Drex Technologies which is owned by Rami Makhlouf who is accused of providing financial support to the regime.
The 26 blacklisted persons include top ranking military, police, and security officials.
EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels yesterday decided to tighten sanctions against the Syrian regime. The sanctions include a travel ban to the EU and an asset freeze.
This brings the total number of Syiran persons subject to sanctions to 155 whereas 52 Syrian entities are now affected by an EU asset freeze.(end) nk.wsa KUNA 241158 Jul 12NNNN
