ABU DHABI, July 13 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) called Friday
for an urgent meeting of the UN Human Rights Council to discuss means to put
an end to the "massacres" and inhumane practices against Muslims in Burma.
UAE's foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nuhayyan made the call
during a phone call with Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during which they discussed the
killing and displacement of Muslims in Burma.
He said the harassment against Muslims in Burma was in violation of
international human rights principles, official media reported.
Sheikh Abdullah extended backing to the OIC's initiative to rally
international support for the protection of Muslims in Burma as well as
halting killing and displacement they were exposed to. (end)
