Leading Kuwaiti legislator affirms significance of inter-GCC cooperation

JEDDAH, May 26 (KUNA) -- The chairman of the external affairs of Kuwait's National Assembly, MP Mohammad Al-Sager, affirmed necessity of supporting all forms of cooperation among member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council at the foreign and defense levels.
External and defense policies of the GCC states should be unified, said Al-Sager, affirming that the solid ties bounding the member states of the council enabled them survive turbulent regional conditions.
He made the remarks to KUNA following a banquet held, on Friday, by the deputy chairman of the Saudi Shura Council, Dr. Mohammad Al-Jifri, honoring Al-Sager and other members of the Kuwaiti Parliament, currently on a visit to the kingdom. The delegation includes MP Hamad Al-Mutar, MP Ali Al-Deqbasi, MP Mubarak Al-Waalan and MP Ammar Al-Ajmi.
On Kuwaiti-Saudi relations, Al-Sager said the kingdom "constitutes the strategic humanitarian and regional dimension of the State of Kuwait and the other GCC states," indicating at substantial harmony of the foreign policies of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Regarding objective of the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation, he said that it was aimed at holding talks with Saudi counterparts on various issues namely Syria, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.
The delegation is also visiting Qatar and Bahrain, he said, regarding its current schedule, indicating that the MPs would later visit the UAE and Oman.
On question of establishing federation among the GCC states, Al-Sager said the delegation would listen to views of the Saudis about this issue, noting some opposition to the proposal in the Kuwaiti parliament.
