UNESCO awards Saudi King with its golden medal

RIYADH, April 23 (KUNA) -- The Director General of (UNESCO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Irina Bokova awarded the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud with UNESCO's Gold Medal, the organization's highest honorary recognition award.
According to Saudi Press Agency, UNESCO awarded the Saudi king with its Gold Medal as an appreciation to his efforts in strengthening the culture of dialogue and peace, and to value his initiatives in holding international forums and conferences in various global capitals and international organizations.
Earlier today, Bokova met with King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, along with elite of UNESCO's Ambassadors representing Palestine, Germany, Brazil, Poland, France, and Zimbabwe.
Last year, King Abdullah approved the establishment of Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Program for Enhancing the Culture of Dialogue and Peace in the UNESCO, which came in coordination with the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom to UNESCO and King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue.
