Today in Kuwait''s history

KUWAIT, April 18 (KUNA) -- 1968 -- Construction of Al-Shuaiba refinery is completed and operation begins. The largest hydrogen-run oil refinery in the world for exporting products begins production at capacity of 95,000 barrels per day.
1972 -- The Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issues a law approving Kuwait's joining an agreement pertaining to payment of dues for trade transactions and the movement of capital among the member states of the Arab League.
1983 -- The Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issues a law on the combat of drug trafficking.
2000 -- The National Assembly approves the national labor law with 51 MPs in favor and nine abstentions.
2001 -- Abdulrazzaq Khalid Al-Zaid Al-Khalid passes away at the age of 71. He was one of the few Kuwaiti figures who simultaneously took part in politics and private business. Al-Khalid was the first editor-in-chief of Al-Talee'a newspaper in 1962 and was elected as an MP in the first National Assembly in 1963.
2004 -- Fatat (girls) Club wins first place in overall team achievement at the Second GCC Table Tennis Tournament held in Bahrain, as well as second place in the doubles game and third place in the singles game.
2005 -- The National Assembly unanimously approves draft law to amend several provisions of the housing care law and the private sector's contribution in the construction of state property lands for housing care purposes.
2010 -- Tenth camel racing championship kicks off under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah with participants from the Gulf and Arab world. The event is of top caliber in its field. (end) wsa KUNA 180902 Apr 12NNNN
