Bahrain condemns attacks against policmen as "terror acts"

MANAMA, March 29 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Minister of Interior Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa said here Thursday that attacks against policemen while performing their duties are terror acts that target their lives.
Al-Khalifa affirmed during his meeting with Chairman of the Chamber or Representative Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Dhahrani and a number of parliamentarians at the Chamber, that the security situation is reassuring and there is a psychological stability despite some sporadic incidents. He said that dealing with situations help security forces to develop their techniques, and time will reveal threat sources in more accurate way to be able to take the appropriate procedures to deal with them.
The Minister highlighted the procedures and steps taken by the Ministry in dealing and controlling security incidents and the self-restraint and human rights standards, obedience of policemen as well as dedication to law enforcement without exceptions, Bahraini News Agency (BNA) said.
He revealed that 760 convections were made by courts for such attacks.
Furthermore, the Bahraini minister highlighted media campaigns against his country that aimed to affect the image of the country and change facts, while affirming that freedom of expression is protected by the constitution with protection of legal rules without violations to the rights of others.
He also affirmed the ministry's commitment to the implementation of the recommendations of the Bahrain International Commission of Inquiry, as some have been implemented, while others are in the process to be achieved. He also reviewed the development and modernization plans for the security field, in term of training and police work as well as to benefit from international expertise and enforcing a code of conduct for police work according to international standards.
