Kuwait Airways strike will not disrupt airport operation - official

By Hanan Al-Qeisi

KUWAIT, March 19 (KUNA) -- The ongoing strike of Kuwait Airways employees will not affect air traffic at Kuwait International Airport, a senior civil aviation official said here Monday.
"Forty four airlines continue to operate their flights in full order, in addition to the (local privately-owned) Jazeera Airways, and these airlines link the airport to others around the world", head of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Fawaz al-Farah told KUNA.
"Travellers from Kuwait can opt to choose their choice of airline to reach their desired final destination." On the issue of on-ground services, he said the airline continues to carry out the role, and that if in the event this was undermined, a specialized private company has been contracted to take over these responsibilities.
He added that the directorate has tasked the Ministry of Interior to assume its role of providing security, in order to maintain law and order within the airport during the strike in the event of a violent outbreak that would affect the duties of airport staff.
Al-Farah stressed that the directorate will be taking strict legal action immediately against anyone who chooses to use the strike to obstruct the duty of airport employees or to disrupt the operation of the airport's functionality. (end) hq.sd KUNA 191825 Mar 12NNNN
