CAIRO, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak discussed with
his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy efforts needed for the success and
continuation of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
Egyptian Television said President Mubarak received a phone call on Tuesday
from Sarkozy about the latter's talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
in Paris, and what efforts both Mubarak and Sarkozy could contribute within
the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean to push forward the direct
talks between Israelis and Palestinians.
This comes within the framework of Egyptian efforts to ensure the success
of the direct negotiations, which started in Washington early this month.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said in a press
release that Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul Gheit met with his Turkish
counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
He said that both officials discussed the Middle East situation, and the
stalled Palestinian-Israeli negotiations because of the intransigence of the
Israeli side, and the Jewish state's insistence to resume settlement activity
instead of focusing on the success of the negotiation process. (end)
