UN launches info., communication technology news agency

GENEVA, June 10 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the United National Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UN-GAID) Talal Abu-Ghazaleh announced on Thursday the launch of the first fully functional news agency specialized in the field of Information and communication technology (ICT) www.tagitnews.com.
The one-of-a-kind project follows the success of Ag-IP-news Agency, the Only Specialized Global Intellectual Property (IP) News Agency which was established in 2003 to serve the IP society around the globe.
"TAG-IT News Agency will act as a coverage tool of the latest news, events, and activities in the Information Technology (IT) field and will also unleash the passion inside all of us for a world full of innovations and technology," Abu-Ghazaleh said in his speech at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) High Level Panel held in Geneva.
"We would like to present this news agency as a reference to all IT companies and educational institutions in addition to organizations for all the news, events, and activities of the IT society," he added.
Based in Amman, the news agency will cover major IT events and news through 73 offices around the world through a high caliber team of journalists and reporters who will bring the latest in IT world.
According to Abu-Ghazaleh, "Our work is not being accomplished without our fortified network established with leaders in the IT domain who keeps us updated with their latest technological inventions, news, events, and cooperation ties. We promise our readers to deliver refined media coverage and in-depth analysis with a wider perspective and thorough viewpoint in IT domain.
" The news pieces would be assessed, classified, and edited for content and language before dissemination for free to those wishing to receive the service.
The agency is hoped to facilitate access to information away from politicalization and polarization and to help bridge the North-South divide and further development in the southern hemisphere.
Launching such news agency in the Arab region is cause for pride and proof Arabs realize the importance of this kind of news and coverage, as is the fact that it all started with a germ of thought and a company first launched in Kuwait in 1972 to grow into the world-wide network it is today.
The news agency emerges as another member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), a Jordan-based international organization, employing over 2000 multi-disciplined professionals and operating through 71 offices around the world.
TAG-Org was founded in 1972 as Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and Co. (TAGCO), an accounting firm in Kuwait by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh. Over the decades, TAGCO went on to expand rapidly into other Arab countries with the creation of several companies, granting early support to and becoming a leader of Arab intellectual property rights protection and registration during the seventies with the formation of Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) in 1972.(end) ta.wsa KUNA 101106 Jun 10NNNN
