Kuwait Arab summit reference for Arab development - minister

(With photos) CAIRO, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mohammad Al-Afasi deemed here Sunday resolutions made at the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Kuwait last January a term of reference for Arab social development in 2010-2020.
The Kuwaiti minister made the remarks to KUNA on the sidelines of the 29th meeting of Arab ministers of social affairs and labor, which kicked off here earlier in the day.
The Kuwaiti minister quoted the conferees as regarding the program of action that was produced by the Kuwait Summit as a reference for Arab social development.
The meeting, though ordinary, comes amid very bad world economic circumstances that have impacted on Arab countries, he said.
Therefore, the ministers discussed the repercussions of the global financial crisis on the social development process in the Arab world with the purpose of alleviating and reducing them, he said.
During their gathering, the ministers are expected to mull over a spectrum of issues, chiefly the follow-up of implementation of recommendations and resolutions made during the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Kuwait.
They will also discuss Arab draft strategies for fighting domestic violence and reducing poverty.
Earlier in the day, a new report on development challenges in Arab countries was jointly launched by the Arab League and the UN Development Program during a special session of the 29th meetings of the Arab ministers of social affairs and labor. (end) mfm.rg.mt KUNA 201926 Dec 09NNNN
