Al-Kharafi welcomes Arab leaders attending Kuwait summit

KUWAIT, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's National Assembly (parliament) Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi has welcomed on Sunday the Arab heads of state and governments who started arriving here to take part in the first Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit, due to kick off on Monday.
"As guests of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Arab leaders are most welcome to the State of Kuwait," he told KUNA.
"HH the Amir always makes his utmost to enhance the Arab solidarity and back the Arab causes especially those relating to socio-economic development," Al-Kharafi underscored.
Meanwhile, the parliament speaker called on the Arab leaders to iron out all problems facing solidarity among their countries particularity during the current crucial stage.
"The ongoing barbaric Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people poses an existential threat to the Palestine question which requires urgent support from all Arab countries," Al-Kharafi asserted.
He hailed the efforts being made by Egypt and Saudi Arabia to put an early end to the ordeal of the Palestinian people.
"The summit is expected to give a strong impetus to the pan-Arab economic development and enhance the Arab unity in the face of the new regrettable developments," he believes.
Al-Kharafi hailed the recent decision made by the Arab foreign ministers to integrate the ordeal of Gaza into the agenda of the summit. (end) msh.gb.
