CAIRO, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- The Arab Economic and Social Council (AESC) has worked out the files of the Arab Economic Social and Development Summit, to be held in Kuwait, on January 19 and 20, 2009.
The ministerial council has prepared all necessary recommendations for the summit including the draft Kuwait declaration, Kuwait's Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shimali told KUNA after the one-day emergency meeting of the council.
"The meeting, chaired by Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, approved the draft declaration which aims to improve the welfare of Arab citizens, as well as the draft resolutions of Kuwait summit," the minister disclosed.
The draft resolutions include one dealing with the impacts of the international financial crisis on the Arab economies.
The draft will be further debated by coming joint emergency meeting of Arab finance ministers and governors of central banks, Al-Shimali pointed out.
He praised the governments of the Arab countries for their strong determination to help Kuwait summit succeed.
"We are satisfied about the sincere efforts made by the preparatory committee of the summit, the general coordinator of the summit and the Arab League to ensure the best possible preparations," he asserted.
The draft resolutions highlight the key role of the private sector in social-economic development in the Arab countries.
Al-Shimali ruled out the possibility that the current global financial crisis would hinder the implementation of project on the agenda of the summit, saying: "We will have enough time to overcome the impacts of the crisis." "The budgets of the Arab countries have maintained a good level of growth which will enable them implement the planned development projects in cooperation with the private sector," he went on to say.
Kuwait's delegation to the AESC meeting, led by Al-Shimali, included Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry Sheikh Ali Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Assistant Undersecretary of the Finance Ministry for Public Services and Economic Affairs Nabil Alabdul-Jalil, Director of Arab and Gulf Economic Cooperation Department of the Finance Ministry Youssef Al-Romi and Kuwait's Permanent Envoy to the Arab League Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mansour.
