KUWAIT, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) Chairman Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah said here Wednesday the 11th Asian shooting championship would be the final chance for Asian shooters to qualify to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The Asian shooting event will be held in Kuwait on December 3 under the auspices of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Sheikh Salman, who is also president of the Kuwaiti Shooting Club, told a news conference here that on the sidelines of the championship, the ASC general assembly would convene at the Crowne Plaza Kuwait hotel to pick a new board of directors for a four-year term, and to handpick a host country of the 12th 2011 Asian Games.
The organizing committee has provided all services to the Olympic Complex, including telephone lines, fax machines, computers, as well as medical facilities, he said.
Tournaments are to be run by 65 referees from all over the world, and supervised by Asian technical delegates, together with a group of international experts, he added.
Some 700 male and female shooters are expected to get engaged in fierce competitions, he added.
Concerning the Kuwaiti shooting sports team, he said preparations for the event were in full swing, pointing to a set of material incentives aiming to encourage shooters to qualify to the Beijing Olympic Games. (end) bsu.mt KUNA 281929 Nov 07NNNN
